The Cobb County Public Library System is offering free computer classes, including: Computer Basics, Internet for Beginners and Basic Email. If you are new to using computers, the internet or would like help in setting up an email account, please sign up for one of our classes listed on the calendar below. You may register in person or by phone at the location of class you would like to attend. Registration is required at the class location and classes are limited to 9 per class.
We are also offering a class on downloading eBooks at select locations. Check our schedule below for dates.
Our newest class offering is our Winway Résumé class. This class is currently being offered at the Central Library. Please check the calendar for more details.
CobbWorks' Mobile Career Center also visits different libraries throughout Cobb County. There is no registration for this service; just visit the library and look for the big blue and orange van.
Course Descriptions
- Computer Basics: This class is for the computer novice. In this class students will gain a basic understanding about the parts of a computer, using the keyboard and using a mouse. Prerequisite: none. Length of class: approx 1 hour
- Internet for Beginners: This class is for the computer user who has not used the Internet. This class will cover the various tool bars on the browser Internet Explorer. Selected websites will also be used to learn about the functioning and searching of websites. Prerequisite: Computer Basics or prior use of a computer, mouse and keyboard. Length of class: approx 1 hour
- Email for Beginners: Email for beginners will cover the basics of email. For those without email accounts, a Gmail email account will be set up during class time. Participants will learn about composing an email, sending an email, receiving and responding to an email, forwarding emails and attaching a file to email. Prerequisite: Computer Basics, Internet for Beginners or familiarity with computers and the Internet. Length of class: approx 1 hour
- Downloading eBooks/eAudiobooks: Learn how to download eBooks and eAudiobooks free from Overdrive. Length of class: approx 1 hour
- Winway Résumé Class: This class is for those who want to create a professional résumé. In this class, you will learn how to create a résumé using the Winway software provided by Cobb County Public Library System. Bring a flash drive to save your résumé (the library does not provide or sell flash drives). Length of class: 1.5 hours.
